Today, August 29 marks the August month’s Supermoon, which is the first of three spectacular lunar shows this year. If skies are clear, it will be visible in the sky as the brightest moon also known as ‘Blood Moon’ due to its reddish feature unlike the usual white.

The moon and sun rise and subside in opposite directions, with the sun setting in the west and the moon rising in the east simultaneously. It leaves a visual treat for 12 hours on Earth and depending on weather and clouds, people can see the ‘Red Moon’ or ‘Blood Moon’ or ‘Super Moon”.

The supermoon will appear on Saturday, Aug. 29 at 2:35 p.m. EDT (1835 GMT), while the lunar perigee on Sunday, Aug. 30 will take place at 11 a.m. EDT (1500 GMT) and both the events occur exactly at the same time. When a full moon occurs during perigee, it would be brighter by 30 percent more and bigger by 14 percent than usual.

Sky watchers in UK and US can see the Supermoon, whichi is very close to earth and very big in size at a distance of just 222,631 miles from earth. In UK, the south and east of England and Scotland may not see it due to cloudy weather tonight but a glimpse of it will be perceptible in Wales, the Midlands and the northeast.

Also known as lunar perigee, the moon moves close to the earth and it also marks high tides in oceans. The August month’s full moon is also known as the “sturgeon moon” as fishermen catch plenty of sturgeon fish in lakes on this day.

The year 2015 will see two more Supermoons appearing on 28 September and 27 October. Tonight’s Supermoon is the first and the second one on 28 September is liekly to be more reddish and brighter. On 28 September there will be a total eclipse of the moon, visible in the early morning in Mideast and Europe.

The Supermoon phenomenon occurs when the moon passes through the earth’s shadow and depending on the color it is called ‘blood Moon’. For doomsday prophecy lovers, ‘Blood Moon’ is the sign of an impending apocalypse, bringing strange tidal activity, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes.

Another astronomical event, the Perseid meteor shower, will also average a high number of meteors per hour and with more fireballs, fast meteors that burn bright in the night sky in August every year.

Doomsday Prophecy:

While August Supermoon will be followed by the next Supermoon called September Blood Moon, Christian preachers from the US claimed the date of the last of four ‘blood moons’ on September 28 in 18 months, signals the second coming of Jesus Christ.

it will be marked by major earthquakes and heightened tensions in the Middle East with the possibility of a third world war, they said.

The two evangelists — pastors Mark Blitz and John Hagee — said they have historically coincided the religious oncoming event ‘Armageddon’ that they say will occur at the end of the ongoing ‘tetrad’ of blood moons, which began on April 15 last year, followed by another red-coloured lunar eclipse on October 8 last year, and a third on April 4 in 2015. The september 28 Blood Moon marks the fourth Tetrad.

Blitz from El Shaddai Minstries in Washington wrote a book titled ‘Blood Moons: Decoding the Imminent Heavenly Signs‘, in which he has mentioned historical blood moon tetrads coincided with significant historical events for Israel and Jewish people.

These events he cited include the formation of the Jewish state in 1948, the Six-Day War for Jerusalem and the historical expulsion of Jews from Spain in 1492. In his prophecy, Blitz claims that an earthquake would destroy the earth on September 28.

  1. A super moon is not a blood moon. The next, and final of four within the past year, will be September 28th.
