Tharoor Issue: ‘All Not Well Within the Congress,’ Says BJP Leader

In connection with the removal of former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor from the Congress party spokesperson, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sambit Patra said, the incident showed that all was not well within the Congress party.

Patra commented on the matter, "This incident shows all is not well within Congress, there’s a great deal of confusion. I would like to take this opportunity to remind the Congress that Prime Minister Modi’s initiatives are aimed towards the nation as a whole. All the good work he is doing is for the nation. So, to have a narrow vision and to see everything with a political view is not good for the nation. The Congress should learn this."

Tharoor has been removed from his post on Monday, regarding the complaint that he supported and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Kerala Congress had filed a complaint to the party high command against Tharoor’s conduct and behaviour.

On Monday, the party general secretary organisation Janardan Dwivedi has said in a press release, "Congress President Sonia Gandhi has accepted the recommendation of the AICC disciplinary committee to remove Shashi Tharoor from the list of spokespersons of the AICC with immediate effect.”

Accusing him of praising Prime Minister Modi’s policies, the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) had taken disciplinary action against Tharoor earlier. He was also accused of accepting the invitation for participating in Modi government’s Swachh Bharat campaign.

The party leaders had claimed that Tharoor has hurt party workers by his "constant adulation" of PM Modi. The matter was taken up by the three-member disciplinary action committee of AICC, comprising leaders Motilal Vora, A K Antony and Sushilkumar Shinde, before the Congress president Sonia Gandhi decided to remove Tharoor from the post.

There were allegations that Tharoor supports Modi government and he is moving closer to BJP. Tharoor had said that he is a “proud congressman.”

Meanwhile, regarding the matter of removing him from the post of party spokesman, Tharoor said, "As a loyal worker I accept the decision of the party president."
