Since the West Indies, the defending champions, are under pressure after their seven-wicket defeat to India, they may begin the onslaught without mercy in tomorrow’s semifianl match. So is it crucial for Sri Lanka to win the match to keep its reigning No.1 rank in Asian cricket glory.

Otherwise, neither Sri Lanka nor West Indies have played their best in the World T20 matches so far and the semifinal on Thursday is a test for batsmen.

The West Indies, after a rollercoaster journey, reached the semifinal with Chris Gayle beign a non-starter. Even Marlon Samuels has shown an unusual game being too slow to hit for fours, if not sixes. Though Kieron Pollard is absent, West Indies was able to scramble its way to the semifinals as James Faulkner was in his good form.

“Team spirit is the most important thing. To get everybody together is the most important thing. We stress a lot on unity and gelling,” said West Indies captain Darren Sammy. “That’s what we are trying to work on. It’s not always been the best, but somehow this tournament, we are doing that and once we see that passion, it automatically comes out. Once West Indies turn up, West Indies are dangerous.”

Sri Lanka, with its patchy batting style, should know that West Indies can be dangerous, given how pitch ground in the tournament.

Sri Lanka, with stars like Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardena, is still showing its weakness. With neither Dinesh Chandimal, the captain nor Lahiru Thirimanne, Angelo Mathews and Thisara Perera should bat their way up in glory to win the match.

Prediction: It is a clash of titans and West Indies should annihilate Lankan fury to win the match.
