As per the Hindu mythology, Ahalya is the young wife of an older saint Gautama Maharishi and she was cheated by Indra, who had an extra-marital affair in the garb of Gautama. On realizing it, the sage punishes her to become a stone and made Indra undergo another curse.

But in Sujoy’s modern ‘Ahalya’, the actual culprit gets punished. Film starts with a young policeman (Tota Roy Chowdhury) entering the home of an aged artist Gautam Sadhu (Soumitra Chatterjee) and Ahalya (Radhika Apte) to question them about a missing man.
