The Farah Khan-directed “Happy New Year”, which was released on Oct 24, has turned out to be a gold spinner – it minted Rs.108.86 crore in the opening weekend but alarmed at its decline in the weekdays after, the HNY team is touring the country to keep the tempo high for few more days.
Shahrukh Khan, also the brand ambassador for West Bengal, will entertain audiences at a show in St. Xavier’s College in the evening and is likely to visit Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee before the event. He tweeted early in the day saying, “Off to Kolkata my favourite city. listening to Sharaabi. Here is a new link till things get sorted I guess.”
The film HNY is based on a heist drama, dance and daring act also stars Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Jackie Shroff, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shah.
Attired in black, SRK arrived in style with Farah beside him and was instantly surrounded by a huge crowd of people snapping photos and clamouring for autographs but was whisked away in a vehicle soon after due to security risk. He will be joined by Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shah for the live show. Abhishek Bachchan is not participating in it.
Produced by Shah Rukh’s Red Chillies Entertainments Pvt. Ltd. (RCE), the film raked in Rs.230 crore in its first 4 days, including overseas box office collections. It has achieved the rare record of highest gross earner of Rs.44.9 crore on its opening day, surpassing all other films released by Bollywood so far.
