In a tweet, Xiaomi said "65,000 sets of Redmi 1S will be available at 2PM tomorrow (Nov.18th). Help us RT this out!". The page on Flipkart also suggests "Those who’ve registered for the Nov 11 sale but missed out, also need to register." In addition, it advises buyers to open the website 2 to 3 hours before and wait for the 2PM sharp to press the buy button.
From its record sale of 40,000 units in 5.2 second, the company has been making waves in online flash sales in India. Its initial model Xiaomi Mi3 in July and August created the hype but the cost cut did not help the company continue its sale for long despite a record flash sale of
40,000 in four seconds continuously every Tuesday.
The next model Redmi 1S, priced much cheaper and with less specs was pushed to fill the gap of loss made in Mi3 sales and there was no need for the company to look back in terms of sales. Its plan to sell 90,000 today will be sold in 5 to 10 seconds and the company will get Rs.64 crore in a flash of moment.
While no freebies were offered last time, this time Xiaomi is offering a complementary screen protector and Micro-SIM card adopter with the Redme 1S pack bought today. The pre-registration toparticipate in the online flash sale saga is already over and the company claims that more than 2 lakh user have registered so far.
Priced Rs.5999, the Redmi 1S is likely to end next month as the company is planning to bring its Redmi Note to India. Its India head Hugo Barra said, "Redmi Note coming to India next." The Redmi Note phablet will follow the same course as the sale of Mi3 in the past, and Redmi 1S now.
Moreover, the Xiaomi Redmi 1S has an HD display, a quad core Snapdragon processor and 1GB of RAM, though its OS is custom-made from Android Jelly Bean version. With its key specs can easily compete with similar devices from big names like the Moto G or the Asus ZenFone 5.
Unlike in the past, last four flash sales and the time taken was not revealed by the company, attributed to its fading demand and also problems it faced with authorities in India and Taiwan, besides prompting competition moves.
Otherwise, in its 6th sale, Xiaomi reported that 100,000 units were sold in a flash of moment of 4.2 seconds, a record with 300,000 users registered for it. Even on Flipkart’s Big Billion Day sale, Flipkart had sold online without any requirement for pre-registration and more than 150,000 units were sold in minutes, if not seconds owing to the website crash.
The 5th flash sale saw 60,000 Xiaomi Redmi 1S smartphones sold in 13.9 seconds, the 4th flash sale saw 60,000 units sold in just 5.2 seconds. The third sale was over in record 3.4 seconds, while the second flash sale took 5.2 seconds. The first flash sale of Redmi 1S sold 40,000 units in 4.2 seconds.
The Redmi 1S is also sold online in countries such as Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, the Philippines and Indonesia.
A global market research firm has recently reported that Xiaomi has become the third-largest mobile phone vendor after Apple and Samsung, leaving Lenovo with Motorola. Xiaomi has sold 19 million units in Q3 in 2014, while another Chinese manufacturer Huawei sold 16.8 million smartphones.
