The Times of India said the film was delayed due to a court order. Quoting sources, it said the Oriental Bank of Commerce "moved a court in Chennai seeking repayment of loan running to more than Rs 40 crore."

Several theatres, which had been booking advance reservations had cancelled their bookings and Sathyam Cinemas in Chennai said: "Due to technical reasons the worldwide release of Kochadaiiyaan has been postponed, we are sorry for the inconvenience."

The film, to be released on 6,000 screens will face problem if the release is postponed to May 23 as its in Telugu big films like ‘Manam’ by Akkineni family is ready for release. In Kannanda too, Karthik Subbaraj’s "Jigarthanda" was scheduled for release on May 23 and in Hindi, "Heropanti" is expected to have a big worldwide release.

The film "Kochadaiiyaan" had been postponed more than six times so far and the last one-and-a-half year saw the film in news only for postposing the date of release than its animation or other details.
