PM Narendra Modi to Launch ‘Make in India’ Campaign

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the ‘Make in India’ programme, inviting industrialists to pave way for making India a manufacturing hub that will help boost jobs and growth, on Thursday.
Ahead of his first US visit, the campaign is expected to give a collective thrust to manufacturing in India and would seek greater foreign investment in the country.
The ‘Make in India’ programme was suggested by the Modi in his Independence Day speech last month. The programme will be launched during an event at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. Modi will give a keynote address during the launch.
According to reports, a senior official in the department of industrial policy and promotion said, "Invites have been sent out to top leaders and CEOs of about 3,000 companies from 30 countries for the launch." He said that the idea is to send across the message to foreign investors that India is becoming a better place to do business.
While ministers heading 25 central departments are expected to attend the launch, top businessmen from the country including Mukesh Ambani, Anand Mahindra, Cyrus Mistry and Shashi Ruia will attend the event. Apart from the stakeholders from 30 other countries, the CEOs of Airbus, Mercedes-Benz and Samsung Electronics have also been invited for the launch.
The campaign aims at making India a manufacturing hub, and the government is pulling out all the stops for ensuring a smooth sailing for investors, by setting up a dedicated cell to answer queries of business entities within 72 hours. It will also closely monitor all regulatory processes to make them simple and reduce the burden of compliance.
According to an official statement, "The government is committed to chart out a new path, wherein business entities are extended red carpet welcome in a spirit of active cooperation. Invest India will act as the first reference point for guiding foreign investors on all aspects of regulatory and policy issues and to assist them in obtaining regulatory clearances."
The programme will emphasis on 25 sectors with focus on job creation and skill enhancement including automobiles, chemicals, IT, pharmaceuticals, textiles, ports, aviation, leather, tourism and hospitality, wellness, railways, auto components and more.
