The much-touted film of Aamir Khan this year “PK” was robust in box office collections as expected but failed to match the year’s higest record on the opening day that was created by Shah Rukh Khan’s Rs.44.9 crore.
PK was able to collect Rs.26.63 crore on the opening day but went on to pick up further 15% more in its second day or Rs.29 crore, owing the the weekend holiday but certainly tipped to gain larger audience on Sunday, which is a holiday for larger chunk of audience. In all the film may cross Rs.80 crore by the weekend but not cross Rs.100 crore, a feat accomplished this year by ‘Happy New Year’.
Ironic but ‘PK’ failed to cross even Aamir Khan’s own record of Rs.36 crore on its opening day last December. One factor was that the film was released not in the weekend nor during the Christmas holidays and another was that the hype created by ‘PK’ campaign did not match the expectations of the audience.
