Bangalore-based Kannada film industry will remain shut on Wednesday following the death of erstwhile movie icon Rajkumar’s wife Parvathamma, aged 78. Her sons Shiv Rajkumar, Puneeth Rajkumar and Raghavendra Rajkumar are still at zenith of the industry with family production house “Poornima Enterprises”.
As wife of veteran Kannada actor Rajkumar, she had produced more than 85 films in Kannada and was a strong defender of Kannadigas, regarding Karnataka’s position in Cauvery River Water dispute with Tamil Nadu and against infringement of the Kannada film industry’s work. Rajkumar died on 12 April 2006.
She was admitted recently in MS Ramaiah Hospital with illness and she breathed her last at 4:40 am on Wednesday morning. Though many schools were not opened due to summer holidays, some schools in the Sadashivnagar area will be closed as a mark of resepct.
The body will be placed at the Poorna Pragna grounds for people to pay their last respects and the funeral will be held at the Sree Kanteerava Studio next to the Rajkumar memorial.
Several theatres in Bangalore and Karnataka were shut down today and film shooting in the state was stopped today due to mourning by the industry.
