‘Newsweek’ magazine’s Twitter account has been compromised briefly but recovered according to its editor-in-chief Jim Impoco.
It was earlier reported that the Twitter account for Newsweek had been hacked by ISIS supporters, apparently sending a threat to Michelle Obama.
They had replaced the banner of Newsweek with their own called CyberCaliphate, and sent a tweet that read:
“Bloody Valentine’s Day #MichelleObama! We’re watching you, you girls and your husband! #CyberCaliphate” . Valentine’s Day is on Saturday, February 14.
Jim Impoco later sent a tweet saying they are about to start sending tweets. “And we were just about to start tweeting #HappyNews — jim impoco (@jimpoco) February 10, 2015″ he said.
ISIS hackers have been compromising several news outlets to gain popularity and often they are also eyeing US agencies. Last week, they hacked the Twitter account of US Central Command, among others.
Newsweek was taken over by IBT Media of New York in 2013.
