As Tuesday saw claims anc ounter claims of father and son duo for the party symbol cycle at the Election Commission office, father Mulayam Singh Yadav suddenly called his son and rushed to Lucknow by a special aircraft hinting at possible reconciliation.
On Monday, Mulayam Singh Yadav met the Election Commission members and staked his claim for the party symbol Cycle which has been associated with the party for over three decades. The next day, Akhiles Yadav’s aide Ram Gopal Yadav met with the Election Commission to make a counter-claim.
Akhilesh-led group said it has the support of 220 out of 229 state legislators and the removal of party president Mulayam Singh Yadav was within its legal ambit. since the claims are strong on both sides, the Election Commission may suspend or freeze the party symbol for now, which means both the factions will be in the election frey without their decades-old symbol Cycle.
On Tuesday morning, Azam Khan, a senior Samajwadi Party leader, who is brokering peace between father and son duo, also accompanied Mulayam Singh Yadav. The latest development has given another signal that Mulayam Singh Yadav may reconcile and opt for a middle path in view of the imminent loss to both sides over the in-fighting.
However, the party supporters of Akhilesh are reportedly adamant to go it alone in the next elections as the rival faction has more scandal tainted leaders and their exit would prove a boon for Akhilesh to come out clean and seek a mandate from the people directly.
