Micromax, which has hijacked Cyanogen from One Plus in India and launched its Yu Yureka handset with Android Kitkat coupled with auto updates from Cyanogen, is now taking an ugly shot at Xiaomi, another Chinese phone maker who has created ripples in the Indian mobile phone market with its flash sale saga on Flipkart.
Micromax has revealed on its Facebook page that it is soon coming with another project called Caesar with a handset that is pre-loaded with Lollipop. To highlight its new project, the Indian phone maker has taken a dig at Xiaomi, whose phones are still based on Android KitKat OS as below.
“Kitkat in the age of Lollipop? Give me a break!” said tis posting on Facebook where Me was shown as ‘Mi’ in such a way to remind the reader that it is making fun of Xiaomi which uses ‘Mi’ logo.
It is a kinown fact that Xiaomi latest phones Redmi 1S and Redmi 2 sport MIUI 6 Operating System that uses Android 4.4 KitKat. Its tablet MiPad too uses the same OS, consider rather old in the fast-growing industry and perhaps the only demerit on xiaomi’s part that its rivals are planning to target in their product sales.
Micromax’s YU Televenture that has launched its latest Yureka phones, will soon unveil its ‘Project Caesar’ with Cyanogen OS12 based on Android Lollipop, according to Rahul Sharma, the co-founder of Yu.
Essentially, Yu Yureka phones, besides Cyanogen, were based on Android KitKat, which was the older version compared to Lollipop but with the CyanogenMod CM11S ROM, the company perceives an edge over other Xiaomi phones. Not able to make a dent in the market with rivalry from the budget and cheaper phones from the Chinese companies, which save heavily on their advertisement budget, Micromax is playing up its Project Caesar kicking off a direct ad row with Redmi phones.
From specs wise, Yureka has a 5.5-inch display with Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 SoC which sports an octa-core processor with 1.5GHz and the Andreno 405 GPU with 550MHz.
With 2GB DDR3 RAM memory, Yureka is available in 16GB storage capacity out of which 12.8GB is available to the user and it is expandable up to 32GB with microSD card. A dual SIM phone, Yureka supports Category$ 4G LTE with TDD 2300MHz and FDD 1800 MHz bands suitable in India with a price tag of Rs.8,999 on Amazon India.
Since the second ad shows that 60% loading has been done, it could mean that the company is more than halfway in its launch of Project Caesar, whose features may include Android Lollipop OS with CyanogenMod CM11S ROM, besides incorporating similar specs seen in Yureka. Its RAM remains to be awaited as anything less than 3GB RAM would make the phone a passe again.
It said on its FaceBook page, YU “Project Caesar: Stay tuned, the fYUture is coming!” So, let’s wait.
