Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are the two names that make the whole football world go gaga over them. They have been dominating the sport since 2008 and are widely regarded as two of the best players of the world.
Their worth could well be felt if one tries to imagine Barcelona and Real Madrid without Messi and Ronaldo, respectively. They are the assets of their clubs as well as of their countries.
However, Messi who is currently busy with national duty in Chile has ruled out the presence of any ‘rivalry’ between him and Cristiano Ronaldo.
According to a report by Mirror, Messi has said that he has no ‘hard feelings’ or ‘rivalry’ with Cr7 (as is Cristiano Ronaldo known to his fans).
“It’s something the media invented. We both want to do well for our clubs, it is not Messi vs Ronaldo, it never has been,” he added.
It’s hard to accept Messi’s claim because their marvelous contributions to the sport both in clubs as well as national team, has created a rivalry between them on its own.
Messi is the leading goal scorer of Barcelona with 412 goals while Cr7 is only 10 short of achieving that feat, standing at 313 in just 300 games, currently.
Moreover, since 2008 these two superstars have dominated the Ballon d’Or (FIFA Player of the Year) award with Cristiano Ronaldo winning the last one, defeating Messi.
No matter what Messi says, for the football loving fans there will always be a ‘rivalry’ between them on field.
