Spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi, widely known as Amma, will meet Pope Francis in Vatican next month, said a spokesperson for the Mata Amritanandamayi Math.
The spokesperson said the leader of the Catholic Church had invited her to Rome in December and Amma has accepted it as an honour to be called upon as a representative to join Pope Francis.
“Opportunities for religious leaders to come together can help spread the fragrance of peace and harmony in the world and can generate solutions to global problems,” she said.
Amritanandamayi is known for for embracing people, which prompted Sanjay Dutt to repeat the idea in his film to encourage embracing people so they get solace from routine work and isolation.
Defending her act, Amritanandamayi says:”I don’t see if it is a man or a woman. I don’t see anyone different from my own self. The duty of a doctor is to treat patients. In the same way, my duty is to console those who are suffering.”
Her charity outfit Mata Amritanandamayi Math (MAM)has a global networks of charity organizations, educational institutions and hospitals in more than 40 countries.
