Manchester United is inching towards signing Louis Van Gaal’s favourite Kevin Strootman but hurdles still crop up on the road to bring the Roma midfielder to Old Trafford as Chelsea has surprised with a transfer offer.
Otherwise, Strootman’s transfer to Manchester United was almost a foregone deal but some reports in the Dutch press say the deal is done case as Strootman, who has recovered from a knee injury that has delayed his transfer for over a season.
Some reports from Italy, including Calciomercato, have backed it up suggesting that Manchester United are in the final stages of wrapping up a deal with Strootman as early as the January transfer window, in a mega deal worth £30 million.
Strootman has openly admitted that he would love to play for Van Gaal again, but seemingly Chelsea has put a spanner with a bigger deal, said a report in the Daily Star.
Chelsea with Jose Mourinho is already a stronger team with Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas in central midfield but its midfield suffered when the game against Newcastle United missed Matic. Mourinho might consider Strootman as a good option but they have to match Manchester United’s offer.
But playing under Van Gaal is the magic that Chelsea has to shadow as Strootman has repeatedly admired the Manchester United manager, when he played for the Netherlands.
Manchester United could field both Strootman and Marouane Fellaini in the centre and make the defence stronger. It remains to be seen how Chelsea brain-storms strootman that his future lies with them than United.
