‘Manam’ Enthralls Many, Though Confusing a Bit

Manam_2Manam, released all over Andhra and Telangana on Friday depicting a family drama with the three generations of Akkineni family — Nageswara Rao (ANR), Nagarjuna and Naga Chaitanya — in lead roles is slightly confusing though with due respect to the departed ANR, the film received positive response and stands to enthrall Telugu audience.

Directed by Vikram Kumar, the film “Manam” features Posani Krishna Murali, Brahmanandam, MS Naryanan, besides Nagarjuna-Amala’s son Akhil and Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan in cameos.

Spanning over 10 years from 1920 to 2020, the film kicks off with Naga Chaitanya and Samantha in a family feud affecting their marriage. Suddenly, both of them die in a car accident leaving their son Nagarjuna become an orphan.

Nagarjuna grows to be a successful businessman and one fine day he comes across a person looking similar to his father Naga Chaitanya. Then he begins the search for someone looking similar to his late mother and he finds her (Samantha) too.

Then the search goes to find the older generation Chaitanya (ANR) and Anjali (Shriya) at a hospital, who in turn find it really shocking that Nagarjuna and his wife resemble his parents – Seetharamudu and Rama Lakshmi.

With the “Back to Future” story intertwined, the explanation for resemblance of three generations in a gap of 100 years showcases the gene thread spreading and procreating similar-looking people around us.

Otherwise, it was a tribute to Akkineni Nageswara Rao, who acted briefly in this film before his end came in January this year. As written in TeluguMirchi, “Manam is a perfect classic film from the Akkineni family. It is perhaps the best gift that the Akkineni family has given to the legendary actor ANR.”
