Rajinikanth’s birthday sensational movie “Lingaa” has gone overboard as expected with fans claiming to have seen the film 3 times on the very first day.

According to Tamilnews.com, the Tamil version has earned Rs.19 crore on its first day, while the Telugu version has supplemented the revenue considerably with Rs.5 crore in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The overseas numbers being circulated are:

US: $404,566 from 118 screens via @ATMUSent
UK: £16,339 from 7 locations via @uktamilbo

The film released in more than 3,000 screens worldwide has crossed the record of 2014 set by Vijay’s “Kaththi” , which grossed Rs.12 crore and even crossed Rajinikanth’s own record of the first day collections of “Endhiraan” or “Robo” that was in the range of Rs.10 crore.

“Lingaa” featuring Sonakshi Sinha and Anushka Shetty has Rajinikanth in double role of grandfather and grandson, with pre-independence period bringing alive village politics to the present day over a dam construction and the opening of a Shiva temple.

With reviews averaging on good and poor, the movie is going houseful in many theatres just because of Rajinikanth and the fact that he is returning with his film after almost 4 years of gap.

Meanwhile, the day was full of birthday celebrations and thanks-giving for the Thalaivaar Rajinikanth on Friday with Prime Minister  Narendra Modi and his good friend Amitabh Bachchan and millions of fans wishing him on his 64th birthday.

In a string of tweets, Rajinikanth first thanked Modi, saying: “My heartfelt thanks to you dear @narendramodi ji, for your thoughtful birthday wishes amidst your busy schedule, Warm regards.”

“Here’s thanking @srbachchan ji, Kamal Hassan, my entire film fraternity and all my dear friends for the birthday wishes,” he wrote on his Twitter handle.

“To the ones who mean everything to me… MY FANS… from all over the world who wished me today…THANK YOU #touched. God bless.”
