Japan’s Sharp company has unveiled a new smartphone with a unique screen design called the Aquos Crystal series, partnering with SoftBank Corp. with a display that is “frameless” with a screen from edge to edge.
The five-inch screen model will be launched in Japan on August 29, and will be marketed in the U.S. by Sprint Corp. later this year.
The next model Aquos Crystal X with a 5.5-inch screen will be launched in Japan in December.
Japan firm SoftBank is banking on the new device to enter desperately the US business and its global reach in the near future.
The Aquos Crystal can take 999 consecutive photos, has a battery life of up to three days, and comes with a wireless speaker system.
But its distinctive screen will be the focus of the campaign and the sales pitch for the Japanese firm.
