Preview: Royal Challengers Bangalore, with some of the most talented Twenty20 batsmen in their line-up, have won both their games so far and eyeing a hat-trick in the season to notch up high points. Despite the absence of Chris Gayle, who has been nursing a sore back, they were able to win the last two matches and his presence on Thursday should further boost the confidence of the team.

Otherwise, Yuvraj Singh, Parthiv Patel and AB de Villiers have made quite an impressive scores, while the skipper Virat Kohli, who is yet to hit the groove, is worried over the lean patch that is not likely to last too long. Kolkatans have a good line-up but lack any big stars though Manish Pandey and Robin Uthappa have made their presence felt. Skipper Gautam Gambhir and Jacques Kallis will be watched this time.

Since, both teams rejoin the tournament after four-day break, RCB after defeating the Delhi Daredevils in their opening match and then rolled over the defending champions, Mumbai Indians, in their next one. The Kolkata Knight Riders, who could easily defeat the defending champions Mumbai Indians in their opening match were driven out of fun when they lost a close contest after the Delhi Daredevils prevailed in their chase of 167 in the second match.

The unassuming Parthiv Patel has been RCB’s top run-getter in the competition so far though many eyes are on skipper Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Yuvraj Singh and Albie Morkel and now Chris Gayle. KKR’s skipper, Gautam Gambhir, Jacques Kallis, and Manish Pandey will be keen to carry their good form.

In bowling, KR’s Sunil Narine, the Trinidadian has played over 100 T20 matches and has bowled 2599 deliveries in the T20 format, as batsmen around the world struggle to pick him. His figures in Pepsi IPL 2014 show a score of 8-0-38-5, which reflect an economy of 4.75 and a strike-rate of a wicket every 9.6 deliveries.

Previous Match: Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Mumbai Indians: RCB should be happy that despite their lapses in the field like failure of two catches and a run-out opportunity, they were able to keep Mumbai Indians down to 115. Kolkata Knight Riders v Delhi Daredevils: KKR too were rusty in their previous match like conceding five runs through misfields, and giving away some extra runs by not backing up returns from the outfield. They need to improve converting the number of singles into runs to make a difference.

Previous Meetings: The Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders have played in 12 matches – both teams have won six matches each. In the last season, the teams won their respective home matches; RCB chased down 158 to win by eight wickets in Bangalore, while KKR chased down 116 in Ranchi to win by five wickets. Among the memorable matches between them is the inaugural match of the Indian Premier League on April 18, 2008, when Brendon McCullum made a record-breaking 158. Chris Gayle struck a century in his very first outing in RCB colours.

Some STATS: Jacques Kallis and Gautam Gambhir share the dubious record – along with Amit Mishra – for being dismissed duck most often in the IPL – nine times each. The record 53.6 percent of Manish Pandey’s 112 runs in IPL 2014 have come in the quadrant covering the midwicket and long-off regions.

What Next: Both teams will be seen in action on Saturday, April 26 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. RCB will be playing in the evening against the Rajasthan Royals, and the Kolkata Knight Riders will face Kings XI Punjab later in the evening.

Prediction: RCB may carry on its winning spree unless KKR sets a very high run target, winning the toss first. Teams (Probable):

Royal Challengers Bangalore: Chris Gayle, Parthiv Patel, Virat Kohli (C), Yuvraj Singh, AB de Villiers, Vijay Zol, Albie Morkel, Mitchell Starc, Shadab Jakati, Varun Aaron, and Ashok Dinda.

Kolkata Knight Riders: Gautam Gambhir, Robin Uthappa, Jacques Kallis, Shakib Al Hasan, Manish Pandey, Yusuf Pathan, Andre Russel, Sunil Narine, Piyush Chawla, Kuldeep Yadav, and Vinay Kumar.
