‘I haven’t been approached to play Sarabjit’, Clarifies Irrfan Khan

Irrfan Khan dismissed rumors that he was picked to play a titular role in the biopic of “Sarabjit”, who was a slain Indian prisoner.

To bedirected by Omung Kumar, the film “Sarabjit” is a biopic on the slain Indian Prisoner Sarabjit Singh. “I haven’t been approached to play Sarabjit at all. This news is definitely not true,” Irrfan, 48, said in a statement.

Reportedly, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been approached to play Dalbir Kaur, who fought for her brother Sarabjit’s release from Lahore Jail.

The movie tells us the story about Sarabjit, who was allegedly convicted in the year 1990. He was suspected to have been involved in a string bomb attacks which killed 14 people in Pakistan’s Punjab province. Sarabjit almost spent twenty two years in prison, after which a local court sentenced him to death.

In the year 2013, six prisoners attacked Sarabjit in Pakistani Jail. He was then taken to hospital to treat his injuries but he succumbed to death. Sarabjit’s sister Dalbir Kaur, who fought throughout to get her brother released was a living testimony to Sarabjit’s ordeal in Pakistan.

The movie will be shot in Punjab this October and is expected to hit theaters in May 2016.
