There are about 8.1 million diabetes cases which go undiagnosed every year. A new study has revealed that, people who are with increase risk of type 2 diabetes need to workout more than others to keep diabetes at bay.
The cause of type 2 diabetes is linked to both genetics and lifestyle. If type 2 diabetes runs in your family, then there are possibilities of contracting the diabetes three times higher, researchers said.
For the study, researchers at Lund University in Sweden analysed the effects of exercise in people with increased risk of Type 2 diabetes who are related to someone with the disease.
The researchers gathered 50 unfit, slightly overweight but healthy men in their 40, who were asked to exercise for seven months at a fitness center.
Half of them belonged with increased risk of type 2 diabetes and the other half served as a control group who did not have any relatives with type 2 diabetes.
However, after the session one can see the results. It showed that both groups benefited from exercising as they lost weight and reduced their waist size.
The results were same because the people who were with increased risk of type 2 diabetes had to exercise more than the people from the control group, according to lead researcher Ola Hansson from Lund University.
On the other hand, there are approximately 62 million people who are diabetic in India. It means India is second to China with diabetics in the entire world, with 92.3 million. In the US, 29.1 million people have diabetes.
Nearly 44 lakh Indians in their most productive years between 20 to 79 years aren’t aware that they are diabetic, a disease that exposes them to heart attack, stroke, amputations, nerve damage, blindness and kidney disease.
More than 10 lakh people were killed because of diabetics in 2011. Diabetes affects more people in rural India (35 million) than urban Indians (30 million). The gap between diabetes in men and women in India is also declining, while 33 million men are diabetic and 30 million women are affected by the blood sugar disease.
