‘Happy New Year’ 19 Days Box-Office Collections Fall Rs. 25 Lakh Short of Rs.200-Crore

With the 3rd week turning into a dull one for Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Happy New Year, the film failed to collect decent box office collections even after two weeks, as reported earlier.

HNY third Monday collections stood at Rs.75 lakhs on its 18th day, falling short of Rs.1.25 crore away from reaching Rs.200-crore club, forget about SRK’s dream to join the ranks of Hollywood with Rs.600-crore mark.

Sharukh Khan’s multi-starrer, in fact, made a solid headway with its opening collections at Rs.44.9 crore, first of its kind in Bollywood history but failed to pick up the momentum as days went by. A film made with Rs.180 crore was not able to rake in double the amount for the SRK-owned Red Chillies Entertainment a-la their 2013 flick “Chennai Express”, despite being a multi-starrer this time.

Directed by patched-up friend and director farah Khan, “Happy New Year” was about a heist with musical drama stuffed into the film and comedy being the prime feature but truly a “non-sensical” fil as aptly put by Jaya Bachchan, mother of Abhishek Bachchan, one of the multi-stars in the film, that was wholly picturised in Dubai for over two months at a stretch.

Apart from SRK, “Happy New Year” also features Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani and Vivaan Shah and is expected to cross the magical figure of Rs.200 crore at least by today, 20th day of the release of the film on October 24.

Last weekend say new films Rang Rasiya and The Shaukeens making inroads into the collections of “Happy New Year” but the shahrukh starrer was able to manage Rs.1.80 crore on Saturday (16th day) and Rs 2 crore on Sunday but opened on Monday with Rs.75 lakhs.

As of Sunday, the total box office collections of “Happy New Year” stand at Rs.199.75 crore in domestic markets. Compared to Aamir Khan’s “Dhoom 3” that collected Rs.372 crore in domestic makret, HNY has to look for another release to make aby beginning in the direction.
