Yes, Smoking Leads to Cancer, Says JP Nadda, favours bigger warnings

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda finally made it official on Friday when he told the Lok Sabha that tobacco consumption must be reduced as it has a direct link with cancer.

Nadda told the Lok Sabha that his ministry was awaiting recommendations of the House Committee on subordinate legislation to take a final call on enforcing larger pictorial warnings on tobacco products, that was pending for over a month.

Nadda said that cigarette packets imported into the country would also carry pictorial warnings. “It will be the same warning,” he said, reiterating that the committee had given its interim report and the ministry was awaiting the final report.

“We are crystal clear about it, we will go forward,” Nadda said adding that his ministry was creating an awareness against smoking and reaching out to school children.(IANS)
