When Twitter tweeted with pride that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has crossed 8 million followers and carries Twitter Mirror with him while on tour, Facebook too issued the numbers — 25 million fans on Facebook.
In Facebook, Modi is Number 2 after politician in the world after US President Barack Obama with so many fans, the social networking website said.
With over 25 million users who have ‘liked’ Modi’s official account, the Indian prime minister is slowly catching up with Obama, who has over 43 million followers both on Facebook and Twitter.
In April, just before the elections and his taking over as PM, Narendra Modi had over 12 million fans on Facebook and it galloped to over 18 million by July and 21 million in September.
That means out of Facebook’s 100 million active users in India, nearly 20 million follow Narendra Modi, who has posted some of the most popular pictures such as the INS Vikramaditya, which got 822,613 likes followed by the Independence Day post which fetched 772,055 likes.
