Tollywood star Mahesh Babu appreciated five ‘Veers’ for exceling in their fields despite being disabled and honoured them for their outstanding achievements.
The ‘Being Human VEER’ campaign was launched by American India Foundation (AIF) in association with ThumsUp. In the first year, over 1000 differently able people were trained, out of which 573 people were hired by 147 organisations, while the 127 people have been employed in Hyderabad with support from implementation partner ACE Social Foundation.
Through the training, the participants who were special people with disabilities overcame the shortcomings and exceled in their own chosen field for progress, despite the obstacles they face in life. Some of the ‘Veers’ recently met with Mahesh Babu, who described it as an ’emotional’ and ‘enlightening’ experience for him and the ‘Veers.’
“Despite their disabilities, the Veers displayed a true ‘Toofani’ spirit and have done exceptionally well for themselves in their respective areas of interest. This initiative undertaken by ThumsUp is a great opportunity for people with disabilities to move forward and strive towards realizing their full potential,” said Mahesh Babu, who praised ThumsUp for initiating such programme.
Vishal Khetani, Zonal Vice President of Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages, said, “We are happy with the achievements of the program in its first year at Hyderabad and are excited about the milestones being set for the second phase.”
The campaign also aims at addressing inclusive education, employment, skill training, development for differently-abled people and advocate a disabled-friendly technology. With the support of AIF, the campaign imparts vocational training to these people and makes them job-ready.
