Jennifer Lopez will perform “We Are One (Ole Ola)” live with rapper Pitbull and Brazilian singer Claudia Leitte as the FIFA opening ceremony kicks off today (Thursday, June 12) night in Sao Paulo, relenting from her earlier stated position not to perform.
In a statement given to People Magazine by her representiative, it was said: “Jennifer would not want to disappoint her fans or fans of futbol. She will be there.”
Earlier some reports said J-Lo might skip the World Cup opening ceremony due to her personal family problems after the 44-year-old singer announced her split from boyfriend Casper Smart last week.
The official FIFA World Cup 2014 theme song “We Are One (Ole Ola)” by Pitbull, features Lopez and Leitte and the music video recorded 75 million visitors on YouTube since May 16.
The FIFA World Cup 2014 opening ceremony will start at 3:15pm local time on Thursday (10:30pm IST) at the Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo, Brazil. “The Opening Ceremony is a tribute to Brazil and its treasures: nature, people football,” the show’s artistic director Daphne Cornez told FIFA.
The two-hour opening ceremony will be shown live on TVs with an estimated 1 billion people to watch it. The performance will see 600 dancers and other celebrities like Beyonce Knowles and Paul McCartney. Palestinian “Arab idol” winner Mohammed Assaf was also invited to perform but it was not confirmed as yet.
