FIFA 2014: Mexico vs Cameroon Match Preview

Venue: Estadio das dunas, Natal

Date: June 12th

Time: 9:30 pm IST

Preview: South American giants Mexico take on African unit Cameroon in what can be described as a very important match for both sides. The game is sandwiched between two phenomenal fixtures — Brazil vs Croatia and Netherlands vs Spain and hence may not attract the fanfare that the former two games might produce. However, the match is of high consequence to both sides and it will indeed be an exciting one to see.

Being a part of group A, that pretty much fancies Brazil and Croatia to make the cut to the next round, both Cameroon and Mexico will have to gun for all three points. The reason being simple. Brazil seems to be the next to ‘unbeatable’ side and both teams will not fancy any points against the hosts. Hence it is in games like this that they need to collect those points to atleast stay in hunt to progress further.

The point of worry for Mexico is that striker Javier Hernandez, who is also the country’s third all time leading scorer has been scrappy in front of goal. His form will affect the South Americans who have themselves been in a bad run of form of late.

Cameroon on the other hand will look at the Eto’o to lead their charge. The veteran striker has found a new lease of life in Chelsea and has been in great form for the Blues. He might probably feature in his last world cup and hence will give it a shot with all his might.

Line ups:

Mexico – Mexico ( 4-4-2): Talavera; Moreno, Layun, Reyes, Salcido; Vazquez, Herrera, Giovani dos Santos, Guardado; Pulido, Hernandez

Cameroon ( 4-4-2): Itandje; Assou-Ekotto, Djeugoue, Nkoulou, Enoh; Mbia, Song, Moukandjo, Matip; Eto’o, Webo.

Predction: 2-1 to Mexico

Players to watch out for:

Mexico – Marquez – Rafael Marquez will be the man to watch for Mexico. The former Barca player opened the scoring in South Africa and will look to lead the charge once again this year. He will pull the strings from the centre and will be the vital cog in their wheel.

Cameroon – World Cup veteran Samuel Eto’o will lead the charge of the lions and will be the key figure on the pitch. He looks younger game after game and will be the ideal man to lead Cameroon on the night.
