In less than a month since iCloud hackers released nude celebrity pictures of Jennifer Lawrence, Rihanna, Kim Kardashian and Vanessa Hudgens, another group has threatened the Harry Potter fame Emma Watson that her nude pictures would now be distributed online, just days after the star spoke out on gender inequality at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
Launching the HeForShe campaign, the 24-year-old globally known actress sought men to come forward and speak up for their daughters, sisters and mothers. “Men – I would like to take this opportunity to extend your formal invitation. Gender equality is your issue too.” See Video of her speech:
In her statement, Watson told men in general: “If we stop defining each other by what we are not and start defining ourselves by what we are, we can all be freer, and this is what HeForShe is about. It’s about freedom. I want men to take up this mantle.”
However, she says the more she speaks about feminism, the more she is attacked as man-hater. “The more I have spoken about feminism the more I have realised that fighting for women’s rights has too often become synonymous with man-hating.”
Soon, the notrious 4chan, which had leaked numerous nude pictures of 101 celebrities last month posted a message saying the UN Goodwill Ambassador will be the next victim — “Emma You Are Next” and added a counter too that is showing 3 days and 9 hours from now.
Some Twitter users began to spread a new death hoax on twitter with #RIPEmma hashtag with pictures of a fake report on the actress’ “death.”
Not relenting, Emma Watson, who has 14.6 million followers on Twitter took to the social networking website saying, “Even worse than seeing women’s privacy violated on social media is reading the accompanying comments that show such a lack of empathy.”
