Delhi HC Revokes Ban on Uber Cabs

Delhi High Court has revoked total ban on Uber cabs in Delhi that was imposed in a hurry over the rape of a woman passenger in December 2014.

Justice Manmohan, giving his verdict, said the total ban was uncalled for. “A total prohibition or a blanket ban on the right to carry on any trade, business or profession should be imposed in the rarest of rare or in exceptional circumstances,” said the judge in his order.

Instead the judge left it to the the Delhi state Transport Department to elicit passengers’ opinion on taxi-booking service providers and prepare necessary precautions and reasonable restrictions.
