Amitabh Bachchan’s sequel to 2008 hit ‘Bhootnath’ released on Friday featuring the megastar as the friendly ghost collected about Rs.7 crore, say initial “unconfirmed” reports but wait for the weekend and next week response from the children as the word is good about the film.
With an occupancy rate of 15 to 25% in theatres, the film is relatively slow for a box office hit, says trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
The solo film released this week has no competition and is meant for children, released to coincide with the holidays and when politics are gripping the mainstream adult population.
The film ‘Bhootnath Returns’ also features Amitabh to groove with rapper King Honey Singh for the first time and the film has been released in Pakistan where the actor enjoys considerable fan-following.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the sequel features child star Parth Bhalerao, who helps Bhootnath to abolish the evils in society, sending out a socio-political message during the elections time.
Patting Parth, Big B had earlier said, “Parth, who plays the little boy in Bhoothnath Returns is a commensurate performer, a mature artist and the hero of the film. Even seasoned professionals sometimes are unable to convincingly go through the gamut of emotions that this boy has in BR. He is an exceptional young man.”
Produced by Bhushan Kumar, ‘Bhootnath Returns’ is likely to garner impressive figures at the box office, if not very good returns in face of competition from already released flicks like “MAIN TERA HERO.”
So far, ‘Main Tera Hero’ collected Rs.38 crore with Fri 6.60 cr, Sat 8.03 cr, Sun 8.10 cr, Mon 4.20 cr, Tue 4.80 cr, Wed 3.40 cr, Thu 3.35 cr.
“Notwithstanding the solo release status, aggressive pre-release promotion and a brand value attached to its title, the start has been sluggish almost everywhere. The morning/noon show trends suggest 15% to 25% occupancy across several circuits,” said a report in Bollywood Hungama.
Since it is a family and kids entertainer, the film is expected to pick up in the weekend. If the word of mouth is positive, the film is expected to do well today and tomorrow.
