Bengaluru Blast: Woman Dies, Cities on High Alert Ahead of New Year Eve

Thirty-seven year old woman was killed and three others were injured in a bomb blast on Church Street in Bengaluru on Sunday night.

While the city is the destination of thousands of people to celebrate New Year, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has called for a high level meet on Monday and has directed the police to overlook the safety measures.

However, after the shocking blast in Bengaluru, all major cities such as Mumbai and Delhi have been put on alert. As the blasts are likely to take place in busy streets, authorities are directed to step up high security measures.

After the blast in the city, National Investigation Agency (NIA) team from Hyderabad has arrived on spot for further examination of blast. Also, several police teams have been formed to probe the bleast.

The woman, Bhawani Bala, who died in the explosion, is a resident of Chennai. Church Street , where the blast occurred can be said as the heart of the city.

Meanwhile the Minister has declared an aid of Rs five lakh to Bala’s relatives, who succumbed to death yesterday. He had also asked to provide the best treatment to the injured at the hospital.

According to a report, Karnataka home minister KJ George said, “It is an act of terrorism. It was done to create a fear psychosis. There is no need to panic. The culprits will soon be brought to book.”

However Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has assured help from centre. On his micro blogging site, Singh tweeted, “Spoke to Karnataka CM Shri S Siddaramaiah regarding the Bangalore blast. He apprised me of the situation. Centre ready to provide all help.”

Union Minister of State for Home, Kiren Rijiju, said in Delhi that the situation in Bengaluru is under control, but it was too early to say who was responsible for the explosion.

Meanwhile, as per reports, two intelligence alerts were given to the Bangalore police in last three weeks.
While the first alert was in regard to the arrest of Mehdi Masroor Biswas, the second alert followed the central agencies over five SIMI men making an attempt to target cities in India. This is the fourth time the explosion taking place in the city after 2008.
