‘Action Jackson’ box office collections in Rs.12 crore range, far below ‘Singham Returns’

Ajay Devgn starrer “Action Jackson” released on Friday in3,500 screens world over, was able to gross Rs.12 crore, on its opening day, far below his highly successful “Singham Returns” that crossed box office collections of Rs.32 crore on the opening day.

However, the action thriller directed by Prabhu Deva, a choreographer himself, is a tribute to Elvis Prestley and Michael Jackson and the purpose was well depicted in the film. The initial estimates show that the film box office collections certainly crossed Rs.10 crore but may not reach Rs.12 crore, though it may pick up during the weekend.

ajFeaturing Sonakshi Sinha and Yami Gautam in lead roles, the film “Action Jackson” like many films, of lte, received negative reviews from critics, which did not affect its initial occupancy figures in the range of above 70% in many theatres and multiplexes.

Rajesh Thqadani of Multimedia Combines said, “The film looks good and the songs are also very catchy. Since nothing worked out in November, this film will definitely take a gigantic opening and will be followed by a bumper weekend. It’s a Prabhu Dheva film and all his films are entertaining.”

Since Prabhudheva films have had a decent opening and run in the first week, the film is also expected to fare well this weekend grossing at least Rs.35 crore. In fact, its trailer received millions of hits that the film should pick up during the weekend, though it may not repeat “Singham Returns” box office feat.

Sanjay Ghai of Mukta Arts was hopeful that the film will gross Rs.15 crore on its opening day. “This film will heal the wounds of all exhibitors, who underwent a dry spell last month. In spite of releasing on a non-holiday, Action Jackson will earn Rs 15 crore on day one,” Ghai said.

But the surprise of cameo inserted into the film of Telugu film “Bahubali” is likely to make wonders in the Tamil-Telugu belt in south Indian market.
