Abdul Kalam’s Death: Was Jharkhand Education Minister’s Garland Row Premonition?

The former President, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam delivering key note address on “Strength Respects Strength”, at the 5th Admiral A.K. Chatterji Memorial Lecture, in Kolkata on April 11, 2015.

Just last Monday, Jharkhand’s education minister Neera Yadav garlanded the photo of APJ Abdul Kalam unknowingly as such tribute is paid to expired individuals. But it turned out true just a week later on the following Monday when Dr Kalam died of heart attack while delivering a lecture at the IIM-Shillong at 6:40 PM.

The minister said it was merely a respectful gesture and not a mistake and it may not have been intentional on her part but ironic that the death came true within 7 days and now a look-back is stunning tha nation. Was it a premonition about the imminent event coming up that too in such a short time?

In India, putting a garland on somebody’s photo denotes the post-death respect after a person has passed away and the photo incident at a function that too in a remote Jharkhand Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir could not have grabbed headlines but for the fact that Dr Kalam himself was there in May this year to address at the state’s agricultural university.

Neeera Yadav told Dainik Bhaskar said, “I only put a tilak on the picture and garlands were already placed on the pictures of other great leaders too.”

Leaving aside the controversy and apologies or defence, it was a sad incident waiting to happen and the premonition was there for the nation to see now while the man involved was above such controversies when he was alive and even now, when he is dead.
