Obama Makes Last Official Call to Modi on Hotline

US President, Mr Barack Obama on Wednesday evening, called Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on hotline for the last time during his term in office and thanked him for his cooperation.

The two leaders, known for their close ties and understanding, reviewed with satisfaction the significant all round progress and cooperation in ties between India and the US in the past few years.

Prime Minister Modi also thanked President Obama for his strong support and contribution to strengthening the strategic partnership between India and the US. President Obama visited India twice during his term and in 2015, he was the first US President wo attended as the Chief Guest at 2015 Republic Day Parade.

Modi conveyed his best wishes to President Obama in his future endeavours. President Obama’s term ends on January 20, 2017. It may be noted that the two leaders have a hotline or secure line of communication between them and their national security advisors, a decision taken after Obamas’s historic visit in January 2015.

India is the fourth country – after Russia, Great Britain and China – to have a hotline with the US.
